Hoverate is a browser extension, made by Kopi Chai Labs, that converts currency amounts when you hover over them. It is designed to work without collecting any personal data.
Hoverate runs on web pages so it can read the few characters directly under your mouse pointer, only while the extension is active (by default, only while you hold ⌘). This text is processed entirely inside your browser to detect a number and its currency, and is never sent anywhere.
Hoverate downloads public exchange rates about once a day from ExchangeRate-API (with Frankfurter as a backup). These requests contain no personal information; like any website, those services can see your IP address.
The popup contains a link to Wise, a money-transfer service. It may be an affiliate link, which means Kopi Chai Labs may earn a commission if you sign up, at no extra cost to you. Nothing is sent to Wise unless you click the link, after which Wise's own privacy policy applies.
